THE POLITICAL CRASS IN KENYA

I know some of you may have started thinking oh no that dude has ng'oad videadly as in why say "crass" instead of "class!!' but hey its for a reason coz seriously our political class has once again shown its detachment to the hard reality facing the commom mwananchi in Kenya. At a time when the kenyan populace is faced with indescribable want both materially and spiritually with inflation on an all-time high and the IDP issue no where being solved, the top two kenyan politicians have seen it fit to come up with a 40-member cabinet! Never mind that the Government doesnt have enough portfolios to fill with ministers but the economic implications are just obscene.

How will Kibaki and raila justify these huge chunks on the budget to the young kenyan sleeping on the cold in Afraha Stadium IDP Camp or the woman who cant put enough ffod on the table for his kids in Kibera? It is time we stood up and said no to this glutonus leaders. Yes we desire to have the coalition cabinet in place but why not share power using a leaner cabinet so that we can then have enough reources for national reconstruction and building?

REBIRTH OF HOPE IN KENYA

As I write this, am overwhelmed with conflicting feelings; of joy and sadness. Today I believe Kenyans have gone back to reclaim their tag of being the most optimsitic people in the world.Since the time when the news of the power sharing deal were released to the nation, I have seen some really beautiful smiles I didnt believe some people were capable of producing. Even today the security guard at our offices greeted me in the morning with a heart-warming smile and the words, " Habari ya mwaka mpya boss!" Indeed today marks the start of the new year for the country: we have to forget whatever transgresssions have been committed against us and pertake in the renewed spirit of rekindling the brotherhood and nationhood that the country temporalily lost soon after the botched elelction results were announced.

It is time to embrace each with love as one people, one nation, kenyans. It is time to rekindle the hope of each one of us; starting from the little ones who do not know what tribal affiliation they hold to the old generation which holds to their respective ethnocentric affiliations. It is a time to explore ways to break from whatever factors divide us be they economic, political or social. It is also time to revive our democratic value systems and rebuild our national institutions for the betterment of this our country.

We owe it upon ourselves and the future generations to remain steadfast in seeking reconciliation and peacebuilding in the country. We must aver that no matter what afflictions we have been through in the past two months, we must find within ourselves to forgive and forget. In the words of one of the great men that Kenya has produced, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, we need to "forgive without bitterness" because that is the only our country(me and you) shall recollect back our lives and move on together.

CRY MY BELOVED COUNTRY

Its been all over the media-both domestic and international.I am talking about the crisis both legal and social that my beloved country-Kenya-has found itself in. I will not go into the nitty gritty of what has caused this chaotic degeneration of what was referred as the haven of peace in Africa. Suffice to say that contrary to what many have discoursed the primary cause is not the election rigging(alleged and proved). To me, this crisis has its roots traceable to the historical divide and rule games that the political class has been playing on the hapless electorate to serve the former's selfish interests.

Too much of that intellectual debate. What is left for this country is the discourse not on who is right or wrong but what can be done to remedy the situation. For indeed if the crisis is not fully addressed urgently, many more lives and property will be destroyed. The country cannot afford this-the repurcussions in both economic and social times are too terrible to imagine. It is for this reason any Kenyan of rational reasoning would welcome and relish yesterday's meeting between the two key protagonists in this situation, that is, Mwai Kibaki and raila Kibaki at Harambee House yesterday. Coming at a time when the level of vilence has relatively reduced, this was indeed a welcome relief. Though no concrete resolutions to resolve the stalemate were reached this touching of base is a foundation from which the peace building and reconciliation process can built upon. The country can only afford to hope all goes well from now on.

LIFE GOES ON

You may have noticed that since the year began I have been reluctant to post anything on the blog. Perhaps you may be asking yourself why this is so. You may have guessed right its coz of the electoral fracas that has been going on. I have had reason to be saddened by the events taking place such that I felt that if I was to post anything I would end up not being objective instead venting my anger out. However, after carefully analysing everything I have found out that the more I keep things bottled the more angry I will remain. So this is what I have resolved-no more keeping matters in abbeyance coz life must continue no matter what else is going on. So today just take things slow and let bygones be bygones....

WHAT A START TO THE YEAR

truth be told this has been the worst start to the year that one could ever have dreamed off.As in can you imagine a crossing over the new year without having a new year bash or going out raving!! well this year started off like that. Us guys were locked in the house the whole noght kind of like we were in a house arrest/detention. It is not like we wanted it but it was because of factors beyond our control. Fate has just handed Kenya an unimaginable nightmare. Chaos has erupted all over as people descended on the streets and on each other to protest at what had become a farcical show of election fraud. anyway it is fate and we have to deal with it.
